Continuing Education student, Laura Mroz, describes her photography experience at Humber College.
"The photography course that I took at Humber did more than just offer technical knowledge - like camera settings or the right exposure. It also gave me the opportunity to practice what I learned through topic specific assignments and, most importantly, it offered the invaluable opportunity to receive feedback and constructive critique from a qualified instructor, who is also a practicing, experienced photographer, as well as from fellow students. Each photograph taken for an assignment was reviewed in class for technical settings, technique, and artistic vision. That combination was something I wasn't able to obtain watching tutorials online and proved to greatly enhanced my photography skills."
Laura won first place with this photo for overall and landscape categories at our 2017 Photo Contest.

“Where Landscapes Fuse”
This extreme long exposure (at 20 minutes) was taken on a foggy day in winter at Fifty Point Conservation Area, in Grimsby, Ontario. Fog is a great element in photography to create natural mood, and with the combination of long exposure, it can further reduce elements to present the subject almost isolated from the world around it. With this image, Laura wanted to combine that sense of isolation with a sense of stillness, but also harmony between the man-made element, and nature. Further reducing it to black and white and high key allowed Laura to reduce the elements in the image, leaving just the dock floating outside of its surrounding, without time or space.
