Hi, my name is Raneem, I am an industrial designer with a passion for addressing everyday problems through the use of innovative product design. I have always been intrigued by new technology and finding ways to integrate it into new product development and enhance existing product designs. This program has allowed me to use my critical thinking and creativity skills to design products that will help and enhance people’s lives. I am excited to use all the experience I have gained within this program to make meaningful contributions to future product designs.
The four essential pillars encompass human-centric design approach and the understanding of full-bodied, three dimensional physical interaction of user, product and environment. The projects generate innovative solutions using research-driven, evidence-based designs which focus on the user experience.
A.Q.U.A is an innovative swimsuit for children, preventing drowning with its AI-powered pool camera that detects distress, inflating the swimsuit and alerting via an app.
It stands out by promoting confidence and swimming skills, allowing kids to swim without visible aids. The design flips the child into a safe position during distress, maintaining the airway. It merges safety and style with fun patterns, adjustable fit, and sustainability reducing waste and environmental impact.
The A.Q.U.A swimsuit is designed to be inclusive of all sizes, featuring multiple zippers and snaps that can be adjusted based on the child's height and size.
Additionally, the vibrant color of the swimsuit was deliberately selected for easy detection in pool waters, ensuring rapid assistance in case of an emergency.
Our swimwear is meticulously designed with a human-factor approach, using fast-drying materials for children's comfort and convenience.
It keeps them dry and comfortable in and out of water. The flotation piece is strategically lightweight and positioned for the child's correct posture during distress, aiding swift retrieval. The user-friendly side zipper makes dressing effortless for guardians.
The A.Q.U.A swimsuit innovatively combines safety with sustainability and social responsibility. Adjustable features allow its use from ages 1 to 4, minimizing waste.
Reusable CO2 canisters and solar-powered AI cameras reduce waste and energy consumption. The swimsuit's design reflects a commitment to waste reduction and responsible production practices.
While A.Q.U.A is not a replacement for supervision in aquatic settings, it serves as an important additional layer of security. Given the high mortality rate of children in swimming pools, innovative and sustainable products like A.Q.U.A is crucial to enhancing children's safety. The swimwear is specifically designed for children aged 1-4 during their early stages of learning to swim and building confidence in the water. It provides added security without compromising their comfort or confidence until distress is detected, thereby addressing a critical need in water safety.
