Celebrity Condo
A Canadian actor bought a penthouse condo in downtown Toronto. He aims to design an entertainment zone combining living and dining areas, with main goals of achieving a living area for 10-12 people arranged in clusters, a dining area for 6-12 people with a buffet and bar, and a quiet meditation space. The challenge was effective space planning with room dividers that maintain natural light and flexibility. Inspired by the client’s humility and suave nature, the design adopts a Zen style with soothing colors and natural materials. A Japanese-inspired pivoted wood panel divider and vertical wood stripes separates the spaces, allowing natural light while providing privacy. A meditation nook and a mini stage for the client’s musical pursuits complete the space, using minimalist furniture and muted tones to create tranquility.

Universal Kitchen Redesign
A newly married couple in their mid-30, living with two St. Bernard dogs, purchased a bungalow and wish to redesign their kitchen to better suit their needs. They aim to create an inclusive, universal kitchen space that accommodates one partner’s potential future use of a wheelchair. They also want to maximize kitchen space utilization and create an inviting area for entertaining guests. The redesign incorporates wabi-sabi aesthetics, featuring varying countertop heights, organic forms, and earthy color palette. Universal design elements, such as adjustable cabinets and remote-controlled features, enhance accessibility. The kitchen remodel ensure space for multiple cooks and flexibility for wheelchair users, with a dedicated feeding station for their dogs placed safely at the kitchen entry.

Hotel Suite Design
The renovation of an existing hotel space within the Barrett Center for Technology Innovation Building at Humber is inspired by a Canadian artist renowned for his passion for the natural world, expressed through bold colors and dynamic lines in his artworks. The project’s primary goal is to maintain the space’s primary function as a sleeping area while also providing a secondary workspace. Additionally, the design incorporates the seven principles of universal design into the hotel guestroom. A custom-made headboard that doubles as a nightstand and desk is positioned at the center of the suite, serving as the visual focal point. This centerpiece is highlighted by natural-colored, dynamic, streamlined background wallpaper and an organic shaped, curved, perforated metal panel ceiling feature, all of which convey a contemporary modern interior style infused with the essence of nature.
