NXNE Music Festival

Calling all Humber Music students! NXNE is looking to feature new talent as part of their official lineup. Be one of 5 five bands/artists to perform in this summer’s NXNE Music Festival. Each band/artist will perform a 40-minute set, taking over one of NXNE’s venues in downtown Toronto as part of NXNE 2023’s Official Programming!

To enter, bands/artists to submit one original song recording to the Listening Committee before 11:59pm Friday, February 24, 2023.

Contest Rules and Information for Bands/Artists

  1. Contest entry is for Bachelor of Music students registered in the Winter 2023 term. Non-Humber music students can make up no more than 25% of band membership.
  2. Demo submission must be of an original song.
  3. Musicians in the recording must be the same performers for the live shows.
  4. Only one submission will be allowed per band/artist.
  5. Band/artist must identify one primary contact.
  6. Band/artist to provide a stage name.
  7. Descriptor of musical genre of band/artist to be shared.
  8. Brief bio of band/artist (max 50 words) will be requested.
  9. Demo to be shared in the form of YouTube, Bandcamp or SoundCloud via link.

Helpful Information

  • Listening Committee will review songs and announce Top 10 bands/artists on March 3, 2023. Click here to see selection rubric criteria.
  • Top 10 finalists will be sent offer letters and assigned to work with an Artist Management Team in preparation for Battle of the Bands, March 25, 2023.
  • All band members/artists must be available to perform on March 25, 2023 (Battle of the Bands) and June 13 – 17, 2023 (NXNE Music Festival).

Musical Technique and Musicianship

This section assesses applicants on their overall musical ability, including technique, facility and artistic expression in their chosen idiom of musical expression.

  • 1 to 3 points: Does not demonstrate sufficient skill or grasp of the main technique/skill being assessed.
  • 4 to 6 points: Somewhat demonstrates the skills and grasps the main technique/skill being assessed.
  • 7 to 10 points: Clearly demonstrates the skills and grasps the main technique/skill being assessed.
