Program Overview

Humber’s Broadcast Television/Videography (BRTV) diploma program will quickly prepare you for media content creation in technical operation and production roles. An intensive, behind-the-scenes look at broadcasting will give you a solid grounding in video production skills and broadcast standards. This program is an excellent starting point for anyone who wants to work behind the scenes in television production and features a wide variety of courses, as well as field experience opportunities, empowering graduates for success in the broadcast industry.

You will learn about live studio and live remote broadcasting; single camera location shooting; video editing and audio mixing; and writing, planning and producing content. Your hands-on broadcasting education will be enriched by access to Humber’s television mobile truck. This compact 35-foot television facility features state-of-the-art broadcast equipment including the latest cameras, video production switcher, digital recording system, broadcast graphics software and editing facilities. Humber has a strong reputation in the television broadcasting industry. BRTV students regularly produce and live stream Humber Hawks varsity games and esport tournaments, fashion shows and live music.

After completing a field experience preparation course, students will be supported in marketing themselves to prospective employers in order to find a field experience that aligns with their personal career goals.Field experiences can be in both operations and production at networks such as CBC, CTV, CityTV, Global, TSN, Sportsnet, MLSE and in progressive production companies including Insight, Cineflix and Blue Ant Media.

The Humber Advantage

The Faculty of Media & Creative Arts HD TV Mobile is a multi-camera television facility used for remote broadcast television production. The mobile contains all the high definition broadcast television equipment found in a television studio, but has the ability to travel to an event to cover it live.

It is a complete broadcast facility on wheels, with 6 HD broadcast television cameras, production switcher, audio console, camera control, digital recording and non-linear editing, slow motion replay and 3D graphic generator. It has the ability to record an event, or feed live to web stream, with satellite or terrestrial transmission.

The HD Television Mobile offers a “real-world” broadcast production experience for students, using “state-of-the-art” equipment found in similar industry facilities. Students learn and practice the exact skills that they will need after graduation.
