Shahrzad is passionate about interior design and the profound impact that well designed environments can have on people. Her thesis project focuses on a Creativity Centre that includes psychotherapy for children with ADHD. Her goal is to investigate how these specialized environments can boost creativity and support children's cognitive and emotional development, all while providing a therapeutic setting tailored to their growth and overall well being.
The Creativity Centre is specifically designed for children with ADHD, combining interior design with psychotherapy to improve learning and emotional development. It is located in a community and uses colour theory, spatial organization, and sensory-friendly materials to help students focus and behave. The centre uses psychotherapeutic interventions to improve social skills, emotional regulation, and creative expression, thus providing an optimal environment for development and evaluating the impact of these integrated approaches on children's well being.
The design concept centers on movement and circulation. By incorporating these elements, the center aims to create a space that positively channels the children's energy, enhancing engagement and focus, which are often challenging for them. This environment is designed to be stimulating yet conducive to learning and creativity. Central to this concept is the idea that children with ADHD benefit from an environment that emphasizes physical activity.
The Creativity Centre is located at 21 Ossington Avenue in Toronto, Ontario, which has a diverse and student-rich population. It is easily accessible thanks to multiple transportation options and street parking, making it ideal for families and children participating in its therapeutic and creative programs.
These 3D views highlight three different aspects of the project: the art studio, the music room, and the sensory room. The design emphasizes movement and circulation, resulting in a fluid and dynamic environment that meets the developmental needs of children with ADHD. Each space is designed to allow children to move and interact freely, fostering learning and physical engagement in a cohesive and interconnected environment that encourages growth and creativity.
