I have a passion for aesthetics, functionality, & sustainability. I find curiosity in exploring different perspectives in the built environment and its varying design processes that contributes to spatial design. My thesis explores the needs of visual art studios and workshops in order to to create a welcoming space that corresponds to the needs of artists and novices by facilitating a space for motivation, inspiration, skill developments, and a place to connect to like-minded people.

Project Overview

Boundless explores the needs of visual art studios and workshops in order to to create a welcoming space that corresponds to the needs of artists and novices by facilitating a space for motivation, inspiration, skill developments, and a place to connect to like-minded people. To do so, the creation of a visual art studio that focuses on “Experiential Learning” and “Activity Based Learning” can aid artists and users in these development.

This methodology involves deconstructing forms and ordering their composing elements in different, often “fantastical” ways.

However, art itself necessitates a level of dysfunction- deviation from social norms, in order to achieve originality and creativity.

The paper is transformed, created in the artists vision, then can be unfolded to be full of infinite potential again.

Concept/Design Process

The limits to what is seen and what is interpreted is boundless. We often constrain ourselves to seeing the world for what it is rather than for what it could be. Once one defies the constraints, it amplifies the ability to view the everyday ordinary as particularly extraordinary.

The Visual Arts Studio will explore the concept of defying the constraint and the idea of modularity of form and functions of interior elements. Such as furniture, millwork, and partitions that can be abstracted and extract new purposes and environments within the used space to accommodate user needs.

Site Plan/Floor Plan(s)

The spatial exploration focuses on the various forms of modularity and how it can be implemented into the overall design and experiences of the space.

Within a visual art studio setting, creating a space with neutral tones and materials is said to aid artists to stay focus on form and composition as it minimizes distraction and influences. It also allows the artist’s art pieces to be the focal point of the space. To incorporate modular functions within the space, utilizing a peg boards versatile uses can provide users with a more flexible space.
