Haliburton Curling Club Kitchen Re-Design

The Haliburton Curling Club was in the process of applying for grant funding from the OTF (Ontario Trillium Foundation) to renovate their public use facilities consisting of the communal kitchen and main lounge/dining area. A part of that application included a design proposal package and written explanations to why it would better support the community.

The goal was to assist in redesigning their kitchen that will better support the area’s primarily retiree based population as well as serve as a hosting kitchen for large community events and bonspiels. A site visit and interview with the club president were conducted. From that the designers highlighted the opportunity to incorporate aging-in-place design upgrades, and to better define different work zones within the kitchen and pickup counters through custom millwork designs. The curling community is meaningful to Jessica as she was in the local youth curling program.

Being from a small community in Trinidad gave Vivian a great appreciation for smaller businesses as she's seen how supporting larger events engages the community in a beneficial way. We hope that through our re-design, they'll be able to act as a host venue for future community events in a more multi-functional, accessible and inclusive environment. As of May 2023, we received word that the grant was approved and construction for the design will begin in summer 2024!
