Secondary School Workshop

Arianne Ambre, Rozlyn Mead, Lauraine Ramadan

The Design Workshop initiative at West Humber Collegiate Institute aims to inspire creativity and cultivate an interest in design among grade 9 students. Through a structured curriculum spanning four weeks, the project seeks to introduce students to fundamental design principles and processes, including material palette creation, space planning, and 3D modelling. By providing hands-on experience and guidance, our goal is to empower students to explore the design field as a potential path for their future studies and careers, thus fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the world of design.

Integrating design workshops into education offers students valuable opportunities for creativity and skill development. By incorporating design principles into the curriculum, schools can foster critical thinking and interdisciplinary collaboration, preparing students for future careers in design-related fields. Exposure to design at a young age encourages exploration and empowers students to make informed decisions about their academic and professional paths, ultimately enriching their educational experience and equipping them with essential skills for success in the modern world.
