CE Media Studies Photo Contest - Winners and Highlights

By: Lara Harb

Thursday, June 14, 2018

This past June, Humber Media Studies & IT gathered at the North Campus to celebrate and exhibit the talent produced by our CE Photographic Techniques students. The diverse backgrounds and professions of the students resulted in an extensive assortment of photographs to enjoy during this one-night show.

The exhibit provided not only a visual display of the student’s talent, but a platform for them to share their stories behind each photo as well. Students used techniques learned during class to create their best work and were honoured in their respective categories including Landscape, Portrait, Animals/Wildlife, Documentary/Wedding and Still Life.

The judges scored each of the 100+ submission on storytelling, technique, colour and impact. The overall winners were chosen from the winning photos in each category.

Here are this years winners:

WINNERS

'Moraine Lake, Banff National Park' by: Alex Konyukhov

Landscape Winner: Moraine Lake is a glacially fed lake in Banff National Park. It reflects a distinctive shade of blue which is because of the refraction of light off the rock flour deposited in the lake. Photographing in this place is great in any season and any part of the day. This image was taken in August before noon. The crystal clean calm water was like a natural mirror for reflection of the surrounding mountains and trees. Through the water the stones on the bottom of the lake create mosaic view of the reflection.

Portrait Winner: Mongolia has a centures old tradition of using eagles to help the men hunt for foxes which provide food and fur for winter clothing. Man and eagle must form a strong bond in order to hunt together as one entity.
