In this micro-credential, you'll dive into the essentials of creating accessible designs for everyone. Whether you work as a designer or in any other industry and are interested in making accessible content, this course is the perfect place to start. Learn the basics of the AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) and applying the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines across documents and multi-media experiences. From colour contrast and document structure to navigation and interactive elements, discover how small changes can make a big difference. Your journey to accessible design starts here.
Upon successful completion of this micro-credential, the learner can apply the AODA and WCAG 2.1 principles to evaluate the accessibility of multi-format designs (including documents) using the appropriate industry terminology and techniques.
Delivery format:
This micro-credential is self-paced and includes 5 hours of content review, in addition to approximately 10 hours of self-study. It will be monitored by a facilitator who is an expert in the field. Students will be required to complete the micro-credential within the term it is scheduled.

Bernadette Summers (she/her) has worked in post-secondary education for over a decade. Bernadette specializes and focuses on digital learning and digital skills. As an Instructional Desinger, Bernadette is passionate about creating course experiences for all learners that are engaging and built with purpose and intention. In all aspects of Bernadette's life, she is passionate about creating equality opportunity and experiences that are entrenched in accessibility, diversity and inclusion. Bernadette holds a Master of Arts degree and Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Studies from Toronto Metropolitian University (formerly Ryerson University). Bernadette also has a diploma from Niagara College in Early Childhood Education.
