Alisha Stranges

"The Theatre Performance program at Humber allowed me to hone my practical actor skills and develop a solid foundation in performance, but I am most grateful for its focus on the creation of new work. Humber exposed me to a broad range of creators and creation techniques and I graduated with a strong desire to tell stories that interest me, using methods that push the boundaries of traditional theatre. Humber showed me that theatre is not just about interpreting scripts and playing characters; it’s an art form and each artist has something valid and unique to express. Since graduating I have been on a rigorous quest for opportunities to create new work. Whether I am the sole creator/performer, an ensemble member of a collective, an apprentice, or an outside eye, Humber empowered me to focus my attention on developing my voice as an artist."

Alisha Stranges is a theatre creator, dancer, and performer. She has toured Europe and Canada as a member of CORPUS Dance Projects performing in A Flock of Flyers, Les Moutons, and Le Grand Peep Show. She is a founding member of the ad hoc collective The Them, who premiered their first new work People4Change at Cleveland Public Theatre’s Big Box Series 2010, and at a showcase at the 2010 NaCL Festival of New Theatre in New York. Recently, Alisha worked with lemonTree Theatre Creations to develop a new play, Still Life, which was showcased at The 519, giving voice to the experience of queer youth in Toronto. As an apprentice member of Shakespeare Link Canada (SLC), Alisha has travelled to Wales to participate and perform in The Mid-Wales Shakespeare Festival and to Mozambique to collaborate with traditional African dance company Montes Namuli. Other credits include Pride Cab 2010 (Assistant Director-Buddies in Bad Times), Gaggle (Choreographer-Hysteria 09), Helga! a solo creation for Buddies in Bad Times’ Young Creators’ Unit (Rhubarb!-08), and Robbers Daughters(Independent Auntie—Cooking Fire Festival). Alisha is scheduled to assistant direct Buddies in Bad Times’ Pride Cab 2011.
