Sina Gilani: Creation and Collaboration

Since graduating from Humber’s Theatre Arts – Performance program in 2012, Sina Gilani has been making a name for himself as both an actor and a playwright. We caught up with him via email to hear more about his flourishing career.

NOW:

I’m currently working on writing an adaptation of a Greek tragedy at Soulpepper Academy. I am excited to be working with an amazing team of collaborators. I’m working closely with Alan Dilworth on this project.

THEN:

  • I received a Dora nomination for The 20th of November (Buddies in Bad Times Theater), directed by Brendan Healy.
  • Performed and wrote In Case of Nothing in SummerWorks 2015.
  • Received my MA in Performance Studies at York.
  • I’m a member of Soulpepper Theater’s fifth academy (one of the two playwrights).
  • Many other theatre [productions] and some films (in postproduction).

HUMBER:

I had an amazing group of talented creators in my ensemble. Having been a part of my class for three years, learning and growing alongside them was an invaluable experience.

I was lucky to have and to build (continuous) mentorships and work relationships with many of my teachers at Humber.

Playing Louis XIV in Tatiana Jennings’ creation …And the King Dances in my final year is among my treasured memories.
