All professors still work in the industry – many notable faculty, like John Bourgeois, Dixie Seatle, and Sheila McCarthy.


Advertising & Graphic Design
Program co-ordinator Laurie LaBelle has 20-plus years’ experience in both agency and studio environments developing leading-edge creative solutions for private and public sector clients. Our program has created a great balance between part-time and full-time professors, and each brings a unique skillset and perspective from their fields. We also gather inter-program professors who bring with them diverse teaching styles that greatly enrich our offering. Some of our other faculty members include Sylvie Pusztaszeri, Catherine Pike, Eric Forest, Blaine Kennedy, Jennifer Mercer, Sarah Nasby, and Janice Fung.


Advertising - Account Management
Humber Advertising Account Management (AAM) professors are award winning and industry recognized. The AAM team includes highly qualified full-time and part-time instructors including program lead Marilyn A. Cresswell, whose successes in industry and contributions to branding and media are recognized by regular invitations to work as a judge. The teaching staff also includes Dr. Colin Flint, Elizabeth Dempster, Merrill Pierce, R. Thompson, and Anika Chabra. This diverse cross-section of instructors remains closely connected with the branding, marketing and advertising industries on both the client and agency side in order to drive your success as a graduate. Their consistent delivery of high-quality and relevant content recently earned the program recognition as a “Jewel in the Crown” of Humber. 


Advertising and Marketing Communications
Advertising and Marketing Communications faculty bring recent, real-world experience to their teaching, and many continue to consult in the industry. Amongst our full-time faculty, professor and program co-ordinator Anna Santilli has been a senior marketer in both Canada and the UK. Jennifer Leonard has held a number of senior roles in PR, including internal communications manager for Bell Canada. Naeema Farooqi is a successful entrepreneur and social media specialist who has worked as a publisher in both Canada and Pakistan. Robin Heisey has held a number of senior advertising creative and management roles, most recently as chief creative officer of FCB Canada, and our newest faculty member, Duncan Fletcher, has deep experience in media, including roles as director of sales at Torstar and general manager of News Review Media.


Advertising Copywriting
Our dynamic and creative professors have extensive industry experience as creative directors, art directors and copywriters. They have large-size agency backgrounds up to 30 years of experience, and all have worked on major multinational brands.


Animation - 3D
Our professors combine extensive industry and freelance experience with a passion for student success. Having worked at companies such as Disney, Nelvana, Ubisoft, Guru Studios and many more, these professors have the real-world experience to back up their substantial theoretical knowledge.


Art Foundation
Art Foundation professors are accomplished artists, designers, entrepreneurs and art historians. They represent the full spectrum of creative career paths available to students upon graduation. Program co-ordinator Cole Swanson is an interdisciplinary artist who has been featured in gallery exhibitions, residencies, and festivals on four continents. Professors include Noni Kaur, Marc Colangelo, Golboo Amani, Steven Cober, Eva Kolcze, Neil Harrison, John Stuart, Carolyne Topdjian, and Tobias Williams.


Arts Administration and Cultural Management
Arts Administration and Cultural Management professors have substantial, ongoing experience in all aspects of the arts, culture and heritage sectors.  Prior to joining Humber as a full-time faculty member, program co-odinator Anne Frost worked as an arts manager, primarily in revenue development, in theatres, music organizations, museums and galleries, and in the dance sector; she maintains a consulting practice to stay current with the sector.  Part-time professors include Heather Young, Inga Untiks, Gail Packwood, Sue Edworthy, Jacoba Knaapen, Charles Smith, and Jeanette Schepp, all of whom make their professional networks available to our keen and engaged learners. Graduates of the program become instructors’ peers, working as arts managers throughout the cultural and heritage sectors.


Broadcast Television/Videography
Our Broadcast Television/Videography professors are second to none. They are acclaimed producers, directors, technical directors, writers, and editors with substantial experience at a variety of networks, including CityTV, GlobalTV, TSN, CTV, YTV, MTV, Corus, Rogers, FOX Sports, NBA TV, and TV Ontario. These professors maintain strong industry connections by continuing to work in industry.


Broadcasting - Radio
Broadcasting - Radio professors are broadcasting and podcasting media professionals with substantial experience. They are award-winning producers, writers, marketers and salespeople who bring real-world currency to the program. Professors include program co-ordinator Neil Mathur, who has worked on the content side of radio at stations such as Toronto’s CHUM, EZ Rock, and Classical 96.3 FM; Sheila Walsh, who is active in Toronto’s voiceover industry and is heard on local stations such as CFRB; and Paul Cross, a noted newsperson who has worked at CHUM, Canadian Press, and now at CFRB.


Comedy: Writing and Performance
Comedy: Writing and Performance professors are well-respected writers, actors, standups, and producers. Program co-ordinator Andrew Clark is an award-winning journalist, screenwriter and author known for his regular Globe & Mail column “Road Sage.” Fellow full-time professors Robin Duke and Larry Horowitz are, respectively, Saturday Night Live and Yuk Yuk’s veterans. Part-time professors include Christel Bartelse, Shawn Campbell, Anne Fenn, Deb Filler, Melody A. Johnson, Bruce McCulloch, Bruce Pirrie, and Mike Sacks.


Content Strategy NEW
Program co-ordinator Cynthia Young has over 20 years’ experience in design, marketing, advertising, and brand communications. She is a full-time professor working alongside the UX-, design- and product-makers to integrate course content and classroom knowledge sharing. She was formerly head of audience at The Globe and Mail where she lead content strategy, analytics and user experience.


Creative Advertising, Bachelor of
Bachelor of Creative Advertising (BoCA) program co-ordinator Richard Bingham leads a dedicated faculty of eight whose efforts have resulted in astonishing success for the program’s graduates – including 19 Cannes Lions and Cannes Young Lions, 37 Canadian Marketing Awards, 25 Marketing Magazine Awards, and 19 National Advertising Challenge Awards, among many others. BoCA’s professors – Michael Rosen, Marilyn Cresswell, Colin Flint, Liz Dempster, Sarah Nasby, Janice Fung, Naeema Farooqi, and Suzanne Pope – boast over 200 years of combined advertising, marketing and design industry experience.


Creative Book Publishing
All professors are active industry professionals sharing their day-to-day experiences in this rapidly evolving, dynamic industry.


Creative Writing - Fiction, Creative Non-Fiction, Poetry
Creative Writing mentors and professors are among the most accomplished poets, novelists and memoirists working in Canada and the United States. Full-time professors include David Bezmozgis, a critically acclaimed filmmaker and the author of two novels and two short story collections, and Alissa York, an award-winning novelist and story writer with five published books to her name.


Design, Bachelor of
Bachelor of Design professors bring strong academic skills and substantial industry experience to the program. They include Vishaal Bedi, Asma Arslan, George Paravantes, Leanna Palmer and Kristopher Ohlendorf. Each professor brings a unique specialty to the program, ensuring that the broad range of UX and design-related skills are covered in-depth. All professors are either fresh out of the design industry or still working in the industry to ensure the content of the program remains cutting edge, and to bring their connections with industry into the classroom to benefit students.


Digital Communications, Bachelor of
Combining theory and practice in this unique hybrid program, our professors have both academic expertise and industry experience. There are three full-time professors in the program, as well as courses taught by a variety of full-time professors from other media programs and part-time professors. Program co-ordinator Gemma Richardson has a PhD in Media Studies from the University of Western Ontario and prior work experience in the non-profit communications sector. Jessica Thom has a PhD in Media Studies and is interested in studying digital audiences and content creators of film, advertising and news. Jessica Wolfe is a designer/developer interested in immersive storytelling and has a PhD in English Literature. Other faculty include Paul Minstrell, Naeema Farooqi, Brian Hastings, Spencer Hawtin, and Alison Gelata. The common first year, shared with the Bachelor of Journalism and Bachelor of Public Relations programs, involves professors from all three programs teaching classes. Common platform instructors include Steven May, Lydia Boyko, Andrea Tavchar, Mike Karapita, and Jeff Berman.


Film and Media Production, Bachelor of
Our respected, established, award-winning professors are still active in the industry. They have worked on such films as American Psycho, Splice, Total Recall, Resident Evil, The Black Dahlia, A Dangerous Method, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Old Dogs.


Film and Multiplatform Storytelling
Film & Multiplatform Storytelling (FMST) professors are forward-thinking educators with a broad range of expertise and insight in this fast-emerging discipline of media creation. Program co-ordinator Orest Sushko spent several years in Hollywood mixing soundtracks for feature films and working with a broad range of directors from David Cronenberg to Guillermo Del Toro. His work has garnered an Emmy Award and multiple nominations. The exceptional team of professors in the program also includes Robert O’Meara, Maureen Dorey, Neil Van Der King, Aram Collier and Joel McConvey.


Film and Television Production
Film and Television Production professors have extensive experience creating content for screens of all sizes.


Game Programming
Full-time professors come from a wide background and include those with PhDs ranging from Computer Science, Chemistry, and Physics to Educational Technology. Roughly a third of our contract professors currently work in the games industry.


Graphic Design
The Graphic Design program has three full-time professors and multiple part-time professors who bring their unique expertise from the industry to the classroom. Program co-ordinator Bianca DiPietro has a decade of experience in the design field that ranges from traditional branding to digital design and interaction design. She is an active advocate of women in tech and strongly supports an inclusive student experience by engaging in international design projects at Humber. Full-time professor Mark Karam is a multidisciplinary designer with over 15 years of experience within the graphic and web design industry and over 10 years of teaching experience. His focus on entrepreneurship, creative design tools, and the integration of educational technology to enhance teaching and learning allows students to explore creative strategies that solve the needs of their clients and audience. Kevin Brandon is an active member of the Adobe Educator Leaders group, which is an international team of educators who are engaged in the latest digital design tools and trends. He has taught in the Graphic Design program for the past 11 years, and he has 20 years of experience in the print industry and web design field.

Professors also have years of working experience in the industry, which creates a unique learning environment that can be tailored to the current state of the industry and future trends in design.

Media Communications
Our professors help students become the multi-skilled media professionals employers are looking for! Program co-ordinator Cathy Bidini is an award-winning commercial and fine art photographer who has been inspiring and mentoring students for over 20 years. Full-time professors Afsina Abbasi and Paul Minstrell are experts in web, design, and motion. We also have part-time professors who are leaders in their field, dedicated to sharing their experience and knowledge to best prepare students for employment opportunities in the industry.


Media Foundation
Media Foundation has two dynamic full-time professors and several part-time professors who work in their respective industries and bring their current industry knowledge to students in the classroom. Program co-ordinator Nicola Winstanley is an award-winning writer and educator. Fellow full-time professor Anne Zbitnew is an educator and advocate for access and inclusion.


Multimedia Design and Development
The full-time professors in the Multimedia Design and Development program have experience owning and operating their own interactive studios, creating interactive multimedia projects for clients such as Tim Hortons, Maple Leaf Foods, and Mercedes Benz. Formally trained as a designer, program co-ordinator Rob Blain combines his love of technology and design in his work. He specializes in the development of real-time web applications, including the development of IoT and robotics-based projects.


Music Business
Our Music Business professors have the depth and breadth of industry knowledge to give you the skills you need to forge a career in the music business. Ninety-five per cent of the professors still work in industry, and many have upwards of 20 years of experience.


Music Composition
JUNO-nominated composer/pianist Nancy Walker is the program co-ordinator and full-time professor in this unique online program. In addition to the course work overseen by Nancy, students are each paired with an industry professional who mentors the student in their personalized major composition project. This year's industry mentors include composers Brian Current, Evelyne Datl, Aaron Davis, Rob DeBoer, Andrew Kesler, Kevin Lau, David Leask, Ari Posner, and Mark Korven.


Music, Bachelor of
Our music professors are critically acclaimed, award-winning, industry-leading musicians, clinicians, and educators. Multiple JUNO Award-winning composer and bassist Mike Downes is both the co-ordinator of this nationally renowned program and a bass professor. Full- and part-time professors are among the top-tier of Canada’s music scene. Among their ranks are multiple JUNO Award winners and nominees such as Kirk MacDonald, Brian Dickinson, Mark Kelso, Robi Botos, Shirantha Beddage, and Suba Sankaran; Toronto Arts Foundation Emerging Artist of the Year Larnell Lewis; 10-times Platinum album composer David Tyson, and Gemini/20-plus-time JUNO Award-winning engineer Peter Cook. 


Music, Introduction to Commercial Jazz Music
Professors are active and accomplished members of the GTA music community, with many cross-appointed to the Bachelor of Music program.


Photography
The outstanding quality of graduate work speaks volumes about the knowledge and experience of our award-winning and well-connected professors. Program co-ordinator David Scott has been a photographer, artist and educator for over 25 years, and a full-time professor at Humber since 2009. Sharing a commitment to blending hands-on skills with creative thinking, David and fellow full-time professor Greg Henderson ensure the program is a leader in professional photographic training. With a background in commercial photography and education, Greg has leading technology and imaging software skills, which he shares daily with students in a real-world setting. Part-time professors bring further breadth of current industry practice to the program. Not only do they teach Humber photography students what is happening with clients and business, they develop critical thinking and conceptual ideas, guiding learners to be their best. Our professors include leading professionals Hasnain Dattu, Sam Sciarrino, Lauren Cheong, and Greg Danbrooke.


Post-Production
Our professors have extensive experience in a variety of sound, picture, and visual effects editing roles in the film and television industry. Program co-ordinator and full-time professor Lara Johnston is a Canadian Cinema Editors Award winner for her work on Mouthpiece. Her other credits include Grey Gardens, The Whistleblower, and RED.


Public Relations
Our professors are established, well-respected communications professionals with substantial experience. Program co-ordinator Lisa McLachlan was on the cover of Marketing Magazine, now called Strategy Magazine , where she was featured for her leadership in the world’s largest rebranding of the global professional services organization Accenture. She comes with over 25 years in senior leadership positions in communications and marketing. Other fantastic professors include Trilby Bittle, Audrey Wubbenhorst, and Robert Plant, as well as a variety of part-time professors currently working in communications roles. These instructors come from an array of industries and professional backgrounds, enhancing classroom learning with the depth and diversity of their experience.


Public Relations (Graduate Certificate)
The Humber PR postgraduate program is one of the country’s leading PR training schools. The program is comprised of an award-winning teaching team, with professors honoured with Distinguished Faculty Awards and a recent Humber Innovation Award for its uniquely designed career-connecting program. This team, headed by Annette Borger-Snel, a 20-plus year industry veteran, shares the latest in PR thinking and tactics, and provides students with practical and authentic learning working with real clients, participating in industry events, and volunteering with some of the country’s most prestigious events.

The Bachelor of Public Relations faculty includes a combination of PhD and MA graduates, with related industry experience.


Radio and Media Production
Our professors have extensive experience at the top levels of their radio and podcasting fields and share their expertise with infectious enthusiasm. Program co-ordinator Paul Cross is an award-winning veteran radio broadcaster (CHUM, The Canadian Press, CFRB) with an MA in New Media and Society. Professors are drawn from the radio and podcast community, including Kate Evans (CBC Podcast Playlist), Neil Mathur (CHUM, EZ Rock, Classical 96), Dean Sinclair (consultation, Humber radio station manager), Errol Nazareth (CBC Radio Big City, Small World), Jane Brown (AM740), Dani Elwell (Jazzcast.ca, voice-over artist), Adam Karch (Bell Media), Wayne Williams (Corus Radio, W2 Multimedia), and Elvira Caria (voice actor, emcee, Q107).

Program co-ordinator Jennie Grimard is a graduate of the intensive student Graphic Design for Print and Web program who alongside her teaching runs a digital agency. Professors are industry professionals who actively pursue freelance work and their own projects, keeping their web-related skills up to date. They come from a mixture of design and programming backgrounds, which rounds out the expertise that is shared with the students.


Web Design and Interactive Media
Collectively, Web Design and Interactive Media professors are internationally award-winning media specialists with many years of industry and teaching experience.  They bring their passion for learning, technology, creativity and problem solving to the classroom each day.  Professors currently include Adam Thomas, Greg Goralski, and David Neumann, along with a great group of part-time, industry-leading expert instructors.


Web Development
Web Development professors are active in the industry as independent developers. They have worked for companies such as Air Canada, CIBC, Fidelity Investments, and the WSIB, and they recently redesigned Humber's library website.
