Jordanne Brown Honoured with 2017 Tim Sims Encouragement Award

Jordanne Brown, a 2017 Comedy Writing and Performance grad, was honoured at the 2017 Alumni Show

Jordanne Brown is going from strength to strength. At the 2017 Humber Comedy Alumni Stand-up Show, the 2017 graduate and past recipient of the Eugene Levy Award for Comedy Writing was named the winner of the 2017 Tim Sims Encouragement Award. Established by Lindsay Leese in memory of Toronto performer-writer-director Tim Sims, the $2,500 award is presented annually to a promising Canadian comedian who is nominated by their faculty.

"I cannot express my gratitude enough for Humber and the incredible staff who shared their knowledge and provided me with constant encouragement,” says Brown, who received her award in front of her peers during the Humber Comedy Alumni Stand-Up Show at Yuk Yuk’s. “They have made an incredible difference in my life, and knowing that I have their support means so much to me."

Brown is a worthy addition to the growing list of Humber’s Tim Sims award recipients. “Jordanne is an extremely funny and intelligent comedian and writer,” says Andrew Clark, director of Humber’s Comedy: Writing and Performance program. “She was an excellent student and had the support of her classmates. She exemplifies all the great qualities that made Tim Sims such a talented and wonderful human being.”

Through the generosity of the Tim Sims Encouragement Fund at the Ontario Arts Foundation, young comedians have received over $65,000 since 1996. Starting in 2015, the Fund honours two recipients each year: one from the Humber College Comedy: Writing and Performance program and one from the Second City conservatory program.
