Pamela Mordecai


Pamela Mordecai’s debut novel, Red Jacket, was shortlisted for the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Award (2015). She has published nine collections of poetry, most recently Up Tropic (2021, bilingual Serbian and English edition), A Fierce Green Place: New and Collected Poems (New Directions, 2022), and de book of Joseph: a performance poem (Mawenzi House, 2022). de book of Joseph was longlisted for the 2023 OCM Bocas Prize; the judges called it "a stunning prosodic and linguistic achievement.”

Mordecai has also published five children’s books, and a collection of short fiction, Pink Icing, recently released as an audiobook in ECW's Bespeak Editions. El Numero Uno or the Pig from Lopinot, a play for children, had its world premiere at the Young People’s Theatre in Toronto (2010) and its Caribbean premiere at the Edna Manley School for the Performing Arts in Kingston (2016). Mordecai has also worked in media, especially television. In 2015, she was filmed reading her first five poetry collections. The video recordings can be accessed on her website. She lives in Toronto.
