The Smokebomb Ideation Project

Researcher: Sarith Nugawila
Project Completion Date: April 2016

Abstract: Humber College partnered with Smokebomb Entertainment to develop ideas and prototype games for their new product (Snowflake). Smokebomb Entertainment is expanding into the video game market and has developed a unique input device called Snowflake that consists of multiple pressure pads that the player can control using their feet and hands. Sarith Nugawila and his team of Game Programming students developed two video game prototypes using unique game mechanics that function with the Snowflake input device.

  1. In the Hexagonal Tower Defense game, Snowflake was used to switch around defenses to battle incoming waves of enemies (Hex Defense).

  2. In the other more casual puzzle style game, Snowflake was used to traverse a hex based map with the goal of reaching the end gate while strategically eliminating floor tiles (Hexplorer).
